TAG Heuer will unveil a Autavia UAE edition during Dubai Watch Week 2017. Developed in partnership with retailer Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, the UAE version will be limited to 150 pieces in total, and is based on the Autavia that was launched at Baselworld earlier this year.
The brown color scheme used in the watch is a hat tip to the UAE - cue the brown tropical sub dials reminiscent of desert sands, brown aluminum bezel and the dark brown camel leather strap. “The Autavia is an iconic timepiece loved by collectors, and I believe a unique UAE edition will only add to its history and legend, making it a desirable collector’s item,” said Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi, vice-president of sales & retail at Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons.
While the original Autavia, introduced in 1962, had a 39 mm wide case, the modern version is a more imposing 42. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal with anti-reflection coating on both sides and a bold 12-hour graduated brown aluminum bi-directional bezel. The beige opaline dial is legible with applied steel indices and hands coated with beige Super-Luminova and features three brown snailed chronograph counters.
The chronograph uses ‘mushroom’ push-pieces, a ridge crown and that vintage Heuer logo to complete that Sixties retro look. Apart from the leather strap, the watch is also available with a 60s-inspired 7-row steel "beads of rice" bracelet, accented with polished steel pin buckle and emblazoned with the TAG Heuer logo.
The watch is powered by the new Heuer-02 chronograph calibre, with a balance wheel that oscillates at 4 Hz and a power reserve of 80 hours. Just 6.9 mm thick, this self-winding movement comprises 233 components, a pillar wheel and a vertical clutch.
Only 9 timepieces will be available during DWW, while 70 will be released in December, and the final 71 in the new year. Each watch will have its production number engraved from ‘001’ to ‘150’ and will only be available in the UAE. The watch is priced at AED21,200.
