After teasing two new models of the Galet Annual Calendar School Watch in December, Laurent Ferrier has kicked off their 2019 product line with Bridge One, a timepiece featuring a new rectangular-shaped case and an in-house manual-winding movement. The Geneva brand, whose expressions remain deeply rooted in the horological tradition of the 19th century, is best known for their Galet (pebble in French) cases and this new shape marks a distinct shift in their design language.

This is the new case shape from Laurent Ferrier

The case is inspired by the Passerelle de l’Ile, a well-known pedestrian bridge over the river Rhone in Geneva. As a child, the brand’s founder, Laurent Ferrier, is believed to have been able to view this bridge from his room. The middle case is inspired by the pure lines of Passerelle de l’Ile and is made from stainless steel. The case dimensions are 30mm x 44 mm and features a ball shaped crown for easy winding. It also features gently curved lugs that promise to hug the wrist and is fitted with a spherical sapphire crystal. An exhibition caseback offers a view of the finely-finished movement.

This version has a Grand Feu enamel dial

A new caliber was designed specifically to fit the rectangular case. The manual-winding Caliber LF107.01 has a Swiss lever escapement that beats at 3 Hz and offers an 80-hour power reserve. The bridges are beautifully shaped and the level of finishing is consistent with the other Laurent Ferrier calibers. In addition to the Côtes de Genève motif with a ruthenium treatment adorning the bridges and the circular-graining of the main-plate, the sides and interior angles are manually chamfered and the screw heads are polished.

The movement was designed to fit the case of the Bridge One

There are two dial variations of the Bridge One. The first features an enamel Grand Feu white dial and slate grey enameled roman numerals. The second version features a grained slate grey dial with a raised XII marker at 12 o’clock and a sub-dial. Time is indicated on both dials by spear-shaped (or assegai-shaped as the brand prefers to call it) hour and minute hands, and a baton-type seconds hand for the slate grey dial. The Bridge One is fitted with Honey Timberland leather or Honey alligator strap with Alcantara lining, secured by a pin buckle or a double blade folding clasp. Prices start from CHF33,000 for the model in stainless steel with the slate dial, CHF 37,000 for the one with the enamel dial and CHF48,000 for the one with enamel dial and red gold case.
