The 28th Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), scheduled for January 15-19, 2018 in Geneva will feature four new brands - Hermès, DeWitt, Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud and Romain Gauthier. The new arrivals bring the total number of exhibitors to 34, with 18 Historic Maisons and 16 Carré des Horlogers brands.
While Hermès will be among the Historic Maisions in the central aisles, independent brands DeWitt, Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud and Romain Gauthier will be placed among their peers in the Carré des Horlogers section.
However, SIHH managing director Fabienne Lupo was quick to point out that this was not part of some bigger move to extend the reach of the premier event. "There is no intention of extending SIHH indefinitely. It will grow within carefully measured limits so as to preserve the values of excellence that have forged its reputation. It must also meet the expectations of its exhibitors and clients, both now and in the future," said Lupo.
Held in January each year in Geneva, SIHH is the year’s first big horological event where exhibitors unveil their important novelties for the year. This is also where the latest trends in technical and precious watchmaking are revealed.
In January this year, SIHH welcomed back in to the fold one of its founding brands, Girard-Perregaux, and also for the first time, Ulysee Nardin. SIHH also opened its doors to the public for one day this year, and will be doing the same again in 2018.
