Tudor continues to serve the hits with its Black Bay line year after year. At Baselworld this year, it debuted the Black Bay GMT, a timepiece with multiple time-zone function, but still steeped in the Tudor tradition.

The GMT function is a first for the Black Bay

The Black Bay was first launched in 2013 with the burgundy bezel and followed the next year with the blue bezel. After adding the bronze version of its talismanic diver’s watch two years ago, Tudor launched the GPHG award-winning chronograph last year.

Though Rolex’s red and blue bi-directional “Pepsi Bezel” on the iconic GMT is instantly recognizable when it comes to GMT models, Tudor’s take on this bi-color bezel is a nod to its roots – so the rotating bezel is actually in matte blue and burgundy. The 12 daylight hours are printed on the burgundy section and the nighttime hours on the blue.

The brown leather strap works really well here

The new GMT watch uses the same 41 mm stainless steel case with the distinct beveled lugs. It is fitted with a domed sapphire crystal and the aforementioned bicolor anodized aluminum bezel with a 24-hour scale. The bezel is calibrated to move once around the dial in 48 notches. Like every other Black Bay model, this watch has a closed caseback and is water-resistant to 200 meters.

The matte black domed dial is familiar except for the additional red “snowflake” GMT hand that takes 24 hours to make one rotation around the dial. The snowflake hand, usually seen on the hour hand, is another Tudor quirk that is a hat-tip to some of its past models. A date window is placed at 3 o’ clock and the hour indices are rhodium-plated and filled with SuperLuminova.

This is an in-house movement with integrated GMT function

A brand new manufacture movement powers the watch – the self-winding Caliber MT5652 has an integrated GMT function and is COSC-certified, just like all of the brand’s in-house movements. With a power reserve of 70 hours, the 31.8 mm wide movement uses a silicon balance spring and has a bead-blasted dull-grey finish.

Like all Tudor models, this model is presented with that trademark three-link riveted steel bracelet with a polished and satin-brushed finish or a rich brown calf-leather strap with folding clasp and safety catch. Both models are also sold with an additional black fabric strap with a burgundy band.

This was one of the most talked about watches this year

The watch is priced at $3,900 (Approx. AED14,351) on the steel bracelet and $3,591 (Approx. AED13,200) when fitted with the leather or fabric strap.
