On a day that Apple announced that it had overtaken Rolex as the world’s leading watchmaker in terms of revenue, the Cupertino brand announced the launch of the new Apple Watch Series 3. However, we are going to focus on the launch of the luxury Hermès edition here.

The Single Tour Rallye strap in perforated Gala calfskin

The Apple Watch Series 3 will no longer be tethered to an iPhone. However, Apple said the watch would use an existing iPhone phone number when making calls. Series 3 supports LTE high-speed mobile wireless data standard allowing users to stream music and check maps on their wrist. Powered by a new chip that is 70 percent faster that the one powering Series 2, the new watch will be equipped with a W2 chip that will offer "85 percent faster WiFi" and be "50 percent more power-efficient."

In terms of looks, nothing much has changed. The watch is still available in 38 mm and 42 mm case sizes, there’s a little red dot on the digital crown now. The thickness of the watch has increased a wee bit thanks to the cellular connection. A new luxury version – the Apple Watch Edition - is also available in grey ceramic now for $1,299.

This printed calfskin strap is inspired by the equestrian scarf pattern

The Hermès Series 3 models come with a striking collection of new bands including the Single Tour Rallye in perforated Gala calfskin. Tapping into a storied history in the world of automobile racing, this new band references the design of the classic Hermès driving glove. Available in black leather, it is paired with a 42mm stainless steel case.

The Single Tour Éperon d’Or in printed Gala calfskin is inspired by the equestrian scarf pattern designed by the French brand's legendary artistic director Henri d’Origny in 1974. It is available in Marine leather with 38mm and 42mm stainless steel cases.

A deployment buckle strap is also available now

A cool new addition is the Single Tour Deployment Buckle, a sleek twist on an Hermès classic. The hidden deployment buckle opens with a click of the two side buttons. Available in Fauve Barenia leather and Ébène Barenia leather, each paired with a 42mm stainless steel case.

A new watch face, inspired by the Carrick Hermès watch, also designed by Henri d’Origny in 1993, completes the existing selection of Hermès watch faces.

The watch is powered by a new operating system, the watch OS4, which will be available to download on September 19. Apple Watch Hermès Series 3 will start from $1,149 and will be available to order on apple.com/fr beginning Friday, September 15, 2017 with availability beginning Friday, September 22, 2017 on hermes.com and in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, the UK and the US.
