WHY IT MATTERS: This watch has the ability to readjust time with the help of a GPD (gear position detection) system, when encountering a magnetic field or any kind of shock. It comes equipped with a perpetual calendar which is pre-programmed with dates and times till 2399, and a longer battery life. It also features an E.O.L. indicator to signal the end of battery life.
THE ESSENTIALS: The VHP chronograph comes in stainless steel or black PVD cases in sizes 42 mm or 44 mm. The watch display hours, minutes and seconds, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock and a 60-second counter in the center. The bracelets come in stainless steel, black PVD or black/blue rubber, with triple safety folding clasp and push-piece opening mechanism.

WHY IT MATTERS: The AT-cut quartz oscillator minimizes hindrances caused by gravity and helps stabilize fluctuations in frequency due to temperature. This pocketwatch comes with a shock resistant feature that automatically corrects the position of hands. Power saving technologies employed, powers the Cal.0100 for six months on full charge, without the presence of light.
THE ESSENTIALS: This model comes encased in a sapphire crystal with a white dial and a case of 33.3 mm. It is a one-off model introduced to mark the centennial celebrations of the Japanese brand.

Grand Seiko 9F Ref. SBGT241
WHY IT MATTERS: Known for its accuracy, the 9F comes with a twin pulse control motor and a special low integrated circuit, which ensures a three-year battery life. The anti-backlash mechanism eliminates the shuddering of the seconds hand and a sealed cabin is fixed so as to prevent contamination of the watch by dust. This watch also comes with thermocompensation technology which minimizes the impact of temperature change on the Grand Seiko.
THE ESSENTIALS: Paying homage to the 1993 original, the timepiece (Ref SBGT241) has a 39.1 mm stainless steel case with a white or champagne dial, closed caseback and a rice bead bracelet. It is powered by the Grand Seiko Caliber 9F83 and is limited to 1,500 pieces. The movement is also hand-finished in the Grand Seiko tradition.

The watch connects to your phone via a smartphone app, so it can receive notifications of emails, messages, phone calls and reminders. WHY IT MATTERS: FP Journe transformed itself from a ladies watch in 2014 to a sporty men’s watch in 2016. Caliber 1210 that powers this watch is no ordinary quartz movement. When not used for 30 minutes, it goes into hibernation mode. On being reactivated when worn, it automatically readjusts itself to the correct time. Battery life extends from eight to ten years and up to 18 years, when on standby mode.
