Swiss brand Mido has introduced a limited edition reissue of the vintage 1939 Multifort to mark the centennial celebration of the company. The Multifort Datometer distinguishes itself from its predecessor with its new red varnish tipped date hand and the sand-blasted silvered dial and a more modern case and movement.
Mido’s Multifort collection was first unveiled in 1934, but the company was inspired by a model released in 1939 which was encased in a 38-mm-wide steel model and featured a date ring on the fringe of the dial. That characteristic outer ring housing the date track is seen on the new model too, and the current date is indicated by a rose gold hand with a red varnished tip. A black varnished central seconds hand also makes its way around the dial and time in indicated by rose gold dauphine hands coated with black Super-Luminova.
The silvered sand blasted dial has Arabic numerals in black at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock, all treated with SuperLuminova. The 40-mm-wide stainless steel case with rose PVD treatment has a mix of polished and brushed surfaces and is fitted with a box sapphire crystal.
Turn over the watch to observe Caliber 80, a new self-winding movement based on the Tissot Powermatic 80. Visible thanks a sapphire crystal caseback, this movement is embellished with Geneva stripes and the Mido logo. As is the case with Powermatic 80 movement, Caliber 80 has a power reserve of 80 hours and a beat rate of 21,600 vph (3 Hz). The 25-jewelled movement uses a Nivaflex NM mainspring and Elinchrom II balance spring thanks to its Swatch Group parentage.
The Multifort Datometer Limited Edition is fitted with a brown leather strap with a rose PVD-treated stainless steel pin buckle, water-resistant up to 50 meters. A nod to the year Mido was founded, the Multifort Datometer will be limited to 1,918 units and word is an exclusive solid gold version limited to 100 pieces will be out this fall. This limited edition (ref. M036.407.36.031.00) is priced at AED5,000 and is available at Rivoli stores across the UAE only on pre-order.
