In March 2019, British brand Bremont introduced a collection of watches produced as part of a tie-up with the British Ministry of Defence (MoD). As part of the deal Bremont could use the signs, symbols, and heraldic badges of the Royal Navy, British Army and the Royal Air Force in this new collection comprising a trio of watches. Today, Bremont extends the line by introducing a bronze version of the Broadsword field watch.
The Broadsword Bronze has a case made from CuSn8 bronze, a copper alloy with 8 percent tin and more resistant to corrosion than other bronze variants. The use of bronze nods to the material’s importance in naval engineering due to its high corrosion resistance to salt water. To recap, the Armed Forces Collection comprises a field watch, a monopusher chronograph and a diver with a super compressor-style case loosely inspired by the ones supplied to the British Military during the WW2-era. Collectors refer to the original watches, supplied by 12 companies, as the “Dirty Dozen”. Of the lot, Vertex Watches has restarted production of watches that are faithful to the 1940’s era watches.
The Bremont Broadsword is a three-hander with a date window at 3 o’ clock and a running seconds hand at 6 and has multiple layers of luminous paint on both the dial and hands to complete the original specification for the British Army. The bronze case is 40 mm in width, is fitted with a bronze screw-down crown, and is water-resistant to 100 meters. The stainless steel caseback features the heraldry of the three armed forces alongside the engraved text “Approved by Her Majesty’s Armed Forces”.
The bronze editions will be available in three different colored dial and strap variations - Slate (grey) Sotek (military green/teal) and Tobacco (brown). The watch is powered by the self-winding BE-95-2AV, a chronometer-grade movement that beats at 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and has a power reserve of 38 hours. The three watches are paired with brown nubuck strap with white stitching or gray or khaki vintage style leather straps. The watch is priced at £2,995.00 (Approx. AED14,350).
