Seiko has released four new models in a capsule collection titled Urban Safari in its Prospex Street range. The four models include two automatic “Tuna” diver’s watches and two analogue and digital display “Arnie” chronograph models.
It may be recalled that in 2018, Seiko introduced the Prospex Street series that took inspiration from the case design of the iconic Tuna Seiko Marine Master Professional (ref. 6159-7010), the watch that fans affectionately nicknamed “Tuna” because of its protective outer shell that gave it that distinct tuna-can-like look. Though they were initially released as Solar-powered movements, Seiko added mechanical movements into the mix too.
The two new mechanical references (Ref. SRPE29 and SRPE31) both have a 42.3 mm stainless steel case including the protective shroud with a hard coating. Both have unidirectional rotating bezels and hardlex crystal glass. While SRPE29 has a khaki brown color scheme, SRPE31 has a field grey one.
The case is depth-rated to 200 meters and is fitted with a screw-down caseback. Both watches run the self-winding 4R36 movement, which has a power reserve of 41 hours. They are both fitted with an accordion-style silicone strap in matching colors. The Tuna models are priced at €580 (AED2,330).
The two Solar-powered watches SNJ029 and SNJ031 are both inspired by a Seiko Ref. H558-5009, a quartz diver from the “Tuna” family that had a digital display as well. First introduced in 1982, it was the first dive watch to feature a digital alarm chronograph with combination analog display. It was nicknamed “Arnie” because Arnold Schwarzenegger famously wore this watch in movies like The Predator.
This is not a small watch, the case is a mammoth 47.8 mm wide and 14.3 mm thick. The stainless steel case has a hard plastic outer shroud. While SNJ029 has a khaki brown color scheme, SNJ031 is dressed in combat green. Both watches are paired with accordion-style silicone strap in matching colors.
They are powered by the Seiko Chronograph Caliber H851. This is a multi-function watch with a 1/100th of a second chronograph up to 100 hours, a full automatic calendar, alarm, and an LED digital display. These two models are priced at €530 (AED2,129).
