Laurent Ferrier has launched a new Classic Origin Green, a new “Série Atelier” limited edition that will be available via the brand’s new ecommerce website. The watch is based on the titanium-cased opaline dial edition launched to commemorate the brand’s 10th anniversary in July this year.
A former Patek Philippe employee, Laurent Ferrier set up the eponymous watch company in 2010 in Geneva and makes less than 200 watches a year. The Galet Classic, knowns for its pebble-shaped case and tourbillon with a double balance spring, was an instant success in the brand’s inaugural year.
The new timepiece follows the same case as the Galet Classic (galet in French means pebble) and is distinguished by its smooth, clean lines. The twist lies in the choice of case material – grade 5 titanium, which is an atypical choice for a brand as steeped in classical watchmaking as Laurent Ferrier. The case dimensions are identical – 40 mm wide and 10.7 mm thick – and is fitted with a sapphire crystal caseback and the brand’s distinctive ball-shaped crown.
The “Série Atelier” features a gradient opaline dial that transitions from translucent green at its center to a deep forest green near its periphery. Yellow numerals punctuate the slate grey hour track to provide the dial with some sporty flair. White gold is used for the indices at 12, 3, and 0 and the characteristic white gold Assegai-shaped (spear-shaped) hands. A small-seconds subdial anchors the dial at the 6 o’ clock position.
The watch uses a new hand-wound movement, the Calibre LF 116.01, visible via the exhibition caseback. The movement uses a free-sprung balance and a Breguet overcoil and uses the brand’s long-blade-type ratchet pawl system distinguished by the delicate mechanical clicking sound emitted during winding. The watch has a power reserve of 80 hours and is finished to the finest haute horology traditions. The microblasted black rhodium-plated bridges have hand-polished edges, each screw-head is mirror polished and the edges of the escapement bridge are polished by hand.
The case is fitted with a honey-toned Timberland leather strap, lined with Alcantara and fastened with a titanium pin buckle. Limited to just 30 pieces, the watch is priced at CHF28,500.
