In 2017, Rado dug into its archives and brought the Captain Cook dive watch back to life. A reinterpretation of a 1960s model, the Captain Cook proved an instant success.
For the first time in many years, there was a Rado that caught attention for something beyond the materials used. But it was just a matter of time before the Swiss watchmaker brought its expertise in ceramics into the Captain Cook collection.
For 2021, the vintage-inspired dive watch gets the full ceramic treatment with the new Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic models. Available in four variants, the new model gets a monobloc case made of scratch-resistant and hypoallergenic high-tech ceramic.
The dial is tinted and translucent sapphire, offering a subtle view of the Caliber R734 movement beating beneath. The automatic movement features a Nivachron hairspring, which lends the Captain Cook added resistance to magnetic fields, and has a useful 80 hours of power reserve. The caseback is also titanium with tinted sapphire in the middle revealing the other side of the movement.
Despite the upsizing, the 43mm watch sits well on medium sized wrists. The titanium bracelet gets a three-fold clasp with black high-tech ceramic opener.
The new high-tech ceramic versions elevate the already brilliant Captain Cook range by bringing Rado’s ceramic heritage into the mix.
